Hume Atelier is a luxury custom jewellery firm. Working out of our private Gastown studio in Vancouver, Canada, we design and build exclusively bespoke pieces for our clients globally.
Hume Atelier is committed to supporting artisanal miners. We work extensively in international policy, education and social venture to build sustainable peace-based economies.
Hume Atelier was founded in 2008 by Kevin Hume and Genevieve Ennis. Together they collaborate on design and work extensively in international mining policy, with a focus on eliminating conflict minerals and supporting artisanal miners.
Since 2006, Genevieve and Kevin have consulted on the development and launch of Fairtrade Fairmined gold. They have collaborated with the US State Department and the US Agency for International Development, and have presented on artisanal mining at the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations. Kevin and Genevieve have worked with miners, government, community leaders and professors in South America and Africa, and have taught ethical sourcing in design at the Pratt institute and the Rhode Island School of Design. Genevieve has also taught at the University of British Columbia since 2006 and Kaospilot in Denmark since 2011.
Kevin is the principal goldsmith and gemologist of Hume Atelier.
We believe in sustainable mining practices and connecting our clients with producers. Fairmined gold assures that miners receive a fair price for their labour. It supports community development and responsible mining practices. It provides small-scale miners in developing countries with the opportunity to improve their working and living conditions. This metal is the only independently certified traceable, transparent source of mined gold.
Hume Atelier has been involved in the development of Fairtrade and Fairmined gold since 2006. We participated in the external consultation process with Fairtrade International, and developed key relationships in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Hume Atelier is a licensee of the Alliance for Responsible Mining.
