Fair Trade Gimli

Gimli became Manitoba`s first Fair Trade Town in 2009.

Gimli became Manitoba's first and Canada's sixth Fair Trade Town officially on July 1st, 2009.  Buying Fairtrade certified products supports producers in developing countries around the world by offering them fair prices/ wages, by ensuring that the production methods they use on fields and in factories are safe for them and the environment, and by offering them a "fair trade bonus" that allows them to undertake community projects such as building clinics and schools.

To meet the criteria to receive this designation, local retailers were encouraged to promote fair trade products and Gimli Youth Community Partnership took up the task of increasing education and public awareness on the issue of fair trade.
