Cegep Champlain St Lawrence Designated Canada's 34th Fair Trade Campus!
September 27th, 2018 | Quebec City, QC. On September 27, during Fair Trade Campus Week, we welcomed Cegep Champlain St Lawrence, the 34th Fair Trade Campus, to our community! It is the first Fair Trade Campus in the Quebec City region. The Fair Trade Campus Program recognizes universities and colleges that support the concept of a fair deal for Fairtrade producers of the Global South.
“With seasonal events featuring Fairtrade products as well as school-wide promotion and in-class tuition about the fair trade movement, the 900 students of Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence are clearly committed to making a difference for farmers and workers. Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving this designation.” Julie Francoeur, Executive Director, Fairtrade Canada
“We are very proud to welcome Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence College as 8th Fair Trade Campus in Québec. By offering fair trade certified products to your students and by your efforts in educating the college community on the importance of changing the rules of international trade, you are making a positive difference in the lives of famers and workers in the Global South. Thank you for your commitment and the role of influence you are playing in your community!” Loïc de Fabritus, Project manager, Association québécoise du commerce équitable
Students and staff at the Cegep worked hard to meet all the requirements to become designated, including offering Fair Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate on campus, and hosting a variety of educational events.
“Students are key to advocating for trade justice around the world. As future policy-makers and business leaders, we believe that students drive the movement toward a more sustainable and equitable world. The campus community at Champlain St-Lawrence has proven this today through its commitment to Fair Trade. Congratulations to all!” Sean McHugh, Executive Director, Canadian Fair Trade Network
The Fair Trade Campus program has continued to grow with new universities and colleges becoming designated on a regular basis. This not only positively shapes the consumption habits of students and staff, but also has an impact in local and regional communities. Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence is proud to be part of this national movement of ethical and sustainable consumption.
