Harvest of Hope: Life in the Kuapa Kokoo Cocoa Cooperative in Ghana
This short book is mainly a series of photographs of the Kuapa Kokoo workers, during and before the harvest. Photojournalist Grout tries to capture the small moments that make up daily life through short paragraphs and his very descriptive photos. Although it does not go into great detail on the cooperative, how it functions, or how the cocoa gets to the market, it gives the reader a sense of what life is like for cocoa farmers in Ghana.
In 2002, poet and photojournalist Phil Grout went to Ghana to document the lives of Fair Trade cocoa growers, Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative whose primary crop is the main ingredient of "Divine Chocolate". With 141 color photos spread throughout the story, Grout is able to give the world a glimpse of the daily life of farming and trading cocoa in West Africa. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to cocoa farmers in Ghana through Kuapa Kokoo, Ltd. and the Odaho Society of Kuapa Kokoo.
